Accessing Data
Project compute instances are securely connected to S3 buckets and database credentials using an IAM role (Enterprise versions only). The data tab will display a list of buckets and data sources that can be accessed from the project compute (aka ProjectVM and Projects). The project compute instances will have either read or read/write permissions depending on your company’s IT policies.

If a bucket is added by the administrator after a project is created, then it will appear as a “new” entry with a button to Connect. In the example below, a new bucket named “testcasefive” was added by the administrator after the project was created. The Connect button will be active when the project is in ON state. Once the button is clicked, the project will move to “Updating Policy” state and finally to ON state. On the Data tab, the new bucket will be in “Connected” status.

Other ways to access data
Users can also access S3 buckets in other AWS accounts with cross-account permission at the root level.
